Founded in 2008, Tacit Group is an audiovisual performance group which is revolutionizing the concept of sound and performance in Korea’s arts field by incorporating dynamic disciplines like electro acoustic music, algorithmic composition, and visual art. Using real-time projection mapping and computer graphics, Tacit Group creates unique performances that draw the audience into compelling soundscapes and stunning visual environments.  Tacit’s core group consists of Jaeho Chang, composer, media artist, and professor at Korea National University of Arts and Jinwon Lee aka Gazaebal, media artist and the first Korean to be acclaimed in British techno.

For their Lincoln Center debut Tacit Group will perform, among other works, a laptop multimedia version of Terry Riley's In C; Space a piece that simulates a virtual universe where sounds are living interactively according to their characteristics; and Game Over a work that has the performers playing the video game Tetris as the computer generates a melody according to the shape that the laid blocks make.

Tacit Group has performed in all the main theaters and festivals in Korea, including LIG Arts Hall, one of the most important independent venues dedicated to support emerging contemporary artists; the Ditto Festival at Seoul Arts Center; the Art Center Nabi, one of the most active independent venues that support the media arts; and the Nam June Paik Center, one of the few venues to support international visual and multi-media arts. In 2012 Tacit Group won the competition promoted by the Asian Arts Theatre’s 2012 Project Development Initiative supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.  Selected among 70 companies from 16 countries by an international jury composed of festival directors, Tacit Group won a grant to research and develop a new project in Gwangju, Korea.

On Wednesday December 5th Tacit Group will conduct a free Artist Talk and Workshop at 6:30pm the Korean Cultural Services.  For more information on the talk please visit www.koreanculture.org.

The U.S. Tour of Tacit Group received generous support from “2012 Center Stage,” a program of Korea Artists Management Services (KAMS) with funding from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Republic of Korea, and by “US/Korea Connection,” a partnership between KAMS and National Performance Network (NPN) International Program with generous funding by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
