In partnership with Urban Word NYC and NYC Votes (a division of New York City Campaign Finance Board), Lincoln Center is proud to announce the second annual Poet-Linc poetry slam competition, a fast-paced showdown featuring New York City teens performing original poetry to the theme “I Have a Voice.”
Emceeing the events are Darian Dauchan (of Bowery Poetry Club fame and the award-winning The Mighty Third Rail) and Shanelle Gabriel (of HBO’s Def Poetry Jam and Urban Word Poet-In-Residence)—both stars of Lincoln Center’s Meet the Artist program.
More than 150 teens from across the city submitted poetry for consideration, and 30 were chosen to participate. Three nights of semifinals will feature 10 teen poets each night, plus a special guest as our “sacrificial poet.” The top three from each night will graduate to the Final Competition on Target Free Thursday, where they will compete for literary prizes, glory, and a chance to be part of NYC Youth Poet Laureate program as the next step of their poetic lives. All teens in the program are also given the opportunity to have their work published in Lincoln Center’s annual poetry anthology.
Attend and support these brave young poets as they take the stage to let their voices be heard.
